BANGKO — Pemerintah Kabupaten Merangin mempertegas komitmennya dalam menjaga kelestarian situs warisan dunia dengan menggelar Rapat Koordinasi (Rakor) Penanggulangan Penambangan Emas Tanpa Izin (PETI), khususnya di zona Geopark Merangin.
Rakor yang berlangsung di Aula Rumah Dinas Bupati Merangin pada Rabu (15/7) ini dihadiri langsung oleh unsur Forum Koordinasi Pimpinan Daerah (Forkopimda), Organisasi Perangkat Daerah (OPD), serta berbagai pihak terkait lainnya.
Dalam arahannya, Bupati Merangin M. Syukur menegaskan bahwa penyelamatan lingkungan dan aset daerah dari kerusakan akibat aktivitas ilegal menjadi prioritas utama pemerintah saat ini.
"Pemkab Merangin bersama tim lintas sektor berkomitmen penuh untuk memberantas aktivitas PETI, terutama yang berada di kawasan Geopark, aset-aset milik Pemda, dan seluruh kawasan wisata," ujar M. Syukur di hadapan para peserta rakor.
Untuk merealisasikan komitmen tersebut, Pemkab Merangin telah menyiapkan skema penanganan yang komprehensif. Upaya ini memadukan tindakan tegas di lapangan dengan pendekatan humanis yang melibatkan seluruh elemen masyarakat secara berkelanjutan.
Langkah pertama difokuskan pada penegakan hukum lintas instansi. Pemerintah daerah akan bersinergi erat dengan aparat penegak hukum dari TNI dan Polri untuk memperketat ruang gerak para pelaku penambangan ilegal. Sinergi ini diwujudkan melalui pengawasan ketat dan patroli berkala di titik-titik rawan kawasan Geopark.
Selain memantau lapangan secara rutin, tim gabungan juga siap mengambil tindakan tegas dengan memberikan sanksi hukum tanpa pandang bulu, baik kepada para pekerja di lapangan maupun para pemodal yang menjadi aktor intelektual di balik aktivitas PETI tersebut.
Di sisi lain, Pemkab Merangin juga mengedepankan pendekatan edukatif dan sosialisasi secara persuasif guna membangun kesadaran kolektif masyarakat. 
Melalui langkah ini, pemerintah memberikan pemahaman yang mendalam mengenai dampak jangka panjang kerusakan lingkungan akibat penggunaan zat kimia berbahaya seperti merkuri. 
Penggunaan bahan kimia ini dinilai sangat fatal karena tidak hanya meracuni ekosistem air, tetapi juga berpotensi merusak situs fosil purba yang menjadi aset tak ternilai di kawasan Geopark.
Melalui sinergitas pertahanan lingkungan yang memadukan ketegasan hukum dan edukasi ini, Pemkab Merangin berharap warisan Geopark yang telah diakui dunia dapat terus lestari hingga dinikmati oleh generasi mendatang.
