KUALA TUNGKAL, 22 Agustus 2026 — Ribuan masyarakat memadati kawasan Wisata Water Front City (WFC) Kuala Tungkal, Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat, Sabtu (22/8/2026), untuk menyaksikan kemeriahan Presisi Merdeka Balap Pompong dalam rangka memperingati HUT ke-81 Republik Indonesia dan Hari Jadi Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat ke-61 Tahun 2026.
Kegiatan yang dimulai sekitar pukul 13.00 WIB tersebut diikuti 72 peserta dan disaksikan sekitar 2.000 masyarakat.
Sejumlah unsur Forkopimda dan pejabat daerah turut hadir, di antaranya Bupati Tanjab Barat Drs. H. Anwar Sadat, M.Ag., Wakil Bupati Dr. H. Katamso SA, S.E., M.E., Kapolres Tanjab Barat AKBP Maulia Kuswicaksono, S.I.K., M.H., Dandim 0419/Tanjab Letkol Inf. Zulhiardi, S.I.P., M.Han., serta Wakapolres Tanjab Barat Kompol Andi Musahar, S.H., M.H.
Balap pompong menjadi salah satu kegiatan yang mengangkat kearifan lokal dan budaya bahari masyarakat pesisir Tanjab Barat.
Selain menjadi hiburan bagi masyarakat, kegiatan tersebut juga diarahkan untuk mempererat silaturahmi, mendukung perekonomian masyarakat dan UMKM, serta memperkenalkan WFC Kuala Tungkal sebagai salah satu destinasi wisata bahari daerah.
Dalam sambutannya, Kapolres Tanjab Barat AKBP Maulia Kuswicaksono menyampaikan bahwa lomba balap pompong bukan sekadar perlombaan, tetapi menjadi sarana pelestarian budaya dan tradisi masyarakat pesisir.
“Lomba pompong ini bukan hanya sekadar perlombaan, tetapi merupakan wujud pelestarian budaya, semangat kebersamaan dan sportivitas masyarakat Kuala Tungkal. Melalui kegiatan ini, kita juga mengajak masyarakat untuk lebih mencintai sungai sebagai sumber kehidupan,” ujar Kapolres.
Kapolres juga mengajak seluruh peserta menjunjung tinggi sportivitas serta mengingatkan masyarakat yang menyaksikan perlombaan untuk tetap menjaga ketertiban dan keselamatan selama kegiatan berlangsung.
Sementara itu, Bupati Tanjab Barat Drs. H. Anwar Sadat, M.Ag., mengapresiasi pelaksanaan lomba balap pompong yang dinilai memiliki ciri khas tersendiri bagi Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat.
Menurutnya, kegiatan tersebut tidak hanya menjadi ajang silaturahmi bagi para nelayan dan masyarakat, tetapi juga berpotensi menjadi daya tarik wisata yang dapat meningkatkan kunjungan wisatawan dari dalam maupun luar daerah.
“Balap pompong merupakan salah satu aktivitas lomba yang menjadi ciri khas Kabupaten Tanjab Barat dan memiliki keunikan tersendiri. Kegiatan seperti ini harus terus dilestarikan sebagai bagian dari kearifan lokal dan tradisi masyarakat,” kata Bupati.
Perlombaan menggunakan rute sepanjang 1 kilometer dengan lebar lintasan 50 meter.
Peserta menggunakan pompong berbahan kayu dengan ketentuan keselamatan, termasuk penggunaan jaket pelampung. Setiap babak race hanya meloloskan satu peserta ke babak berikutnya hingga memasuki babak final.
Setelah melalui seluruh tahapan perlombaan, panitia menetapkan hasil sebagai berikut:

Selain hadiah utama berupa tiga unit sepeda motor dan tiga unit sepeda listrik, panitia juga menyediakan berbagai hadiah dan doorprize bagi peserta serta masyarakat.
Dalam kegiatan tersebut turut disalurkan 150 paket bantuan sosial yang masing-masing berisi satu dus mi, satu liter minyak goreng, dan lima kilogram beras.
Untuk memastikan seluruh rangkaian kegiatan berjalan aman dan tertib, pengamanan dilakukan personel Polres Tanjab Barat bersama instansi terkait.
Kabag Ops Polres Tanjab Barat AKP Hermanto, S.H., mengatakan pengamanan dilakukan secara terpadu dengan mengedepankan langkah preventif, pengaturan arus masyarakat di sekitar lokasi serta pemantauan jalur perlombaan.
“Personel kami bersama instansi terkait melakukan pengamanan secara terpadu untuk memastikan kegiatan berlangsung aman, tertib dan kondusif.
Kami juga mengimbau masyarakat agar tetap mematuhi arahan petugas dan bersama-sama menjaga keselamatan selama perlombaan,” ujar AKP Hermanto.
Kegiatan Presisi Merdeka Balap Pompong berlangsung dalam suasana meriah dan mendapat antusiasme tinggi dari masyarakat.
Kehadiran ribuan warga sekaligus menunjukkan bahwa tradisi bahari dan kearifan lokal masih menjadi bagian penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat Tanjab Barat.
