Pertemuan yang berlangsung sejak siang hingga sore ini membahas kisruh antara petani asal Bengkulu Selatan dan warga Desa Renah Alai, Kecamatan Jangkat, Kabupaten Merangin yang terjadi baru-baru ini.
Rombongan Bupati Rifai Tajudin tiba di Rumah Dinas Bupati Merangin sekitar pukul 12.00 WIB. Mereka langsung disambut oleh Bupati M. Syukur dan dijamu makan siang. Setelah santap siang, pertemuan dilanjutkan dengan diskusi intensif membahas konflik di Desa Renah Alai hingga pukul 15.00 WIB.
Dalam diskusi tersebut, Bupati M. Syukur didampingi oleh unsur Forum Koordinasi Pimpinan Daerah (Forkopimda) Merangin, diantaranya Kapolres Merangin, Dandim 0420/Sarko, Wakil Bupati Merangin, dan Sekda Merangin. 
Sementara Bupati Rifai ditemani oleh Wakil Ketua II DPRD Bengkulu Selatan, Dodi Martian.
Usai diskusi, Bupati M. Syukur menegaskan bahwa penyelesaian masalah ini harus mengedepankan kearifan lokal. Ia menekankan perlunya kesepakatan bersama yang berpegang teguh pada seloko adat.
"Pada prinsipnya, kita semua menginginkan yang terbaik dan tetap menjunjung kearifan lokal (adat dan budaya, red). Dalam hal ini, ada yang perlu disepakati bersama bahwa seloko adat 'Dimana Bumi Dipijak, Disitu Langit Dijunjung' harus dipegang teguh. Dan sebagai tuan rumah, semua ingin berjalan dengan baik dan ini akan kita selesaikan dengan baik pula," tutur Bupati M. Syukur.
Bupati Bengkulu Selatan, Rifai Tajudin, menyampaikan terima kasih atas sambutan hangat yang diberikan oleh Forkopimda Merangin. 
Ia memastikan bahwa gesekan yang terjadi di Renah Alai telah mereda dan kondisi di lapangan berada dalam keadaan stabil.
"Saya sudah cek langsung ke atas (Desa Renah Alai, red) tidak ada yang sifatnya akan menimbulkan 'percikan api'. Artinya semua masih terkendali dan dalam kondisi stabil," jelas Bupati Rifai.
Bupati Rifai juga berjanji pihaknya akan melakukan penataan dan pembinaan terhadap warganya yang beraktivitas di Merangin. 
Pihaknya akan  mendata dan mewajibkan pendatang untuk melaporkan diri kepada pemerintah setempat, seperti kepala desa, yang selama ini tidak dilakukan.
Bupati Rifai juga berencana untuk berkunjung kembali ke Kabupaten Merangin.
"Mudah-mudahan dalam waktu dekat, kami akan kembali berkunjung ke Merangin untuk menyaksikan suatu tradisi perdamaian yang menjadi alasan kami melakukan kunjungan kerja pada hari ini," tutupnya.
